EQUITY + SERVANT LEADERSHIP

Through my experiences, I've realized that pursuing a mere "living" doesn't necessarily equate to crafting a fulfilling life. True fulfillment stems from serving others and giving back to the community, enriching their lives and our own. By dedicating ourselves to acts of kindness and generosity, we weave a tapestry of purpose and meaning into the fabric of our existence. In these selfless acts, we discover the profound joy of making a positive impact, leaving behind a legacy that extends far beyond our individual journey. Embracing the ethos of service becomes an integral part of our identity, guiding us toward a life brimming with significance and fulfillment.

Volunteering in Uganda was a fulfilling experience. I had the privilege of meeting hundreds of children needing essential shoes, school supplies, and dental care. The children were delightful, their spirits unbreakable, and the local villagers were a source of profound wisdom. Traveling abroad and working alongside dedicated medical teams providing free urgent care services was extraordinary. This opportunity allowed me to contribute meaningfully and deeply enriched my understanding of global community and compassion.

I am deeply honored to have received the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award, which recognizes my commitment to promoting inclusivity and equity within our community. This award inspires me to continue advocating for underrepresented groups and ensuring they have the necessary support and opportunities to thrive. I am grateful to those who have guided and supported me throughout these efforts. I am motivated to carry forward a legacy of service by championing a society that celebrates diversity and enables every individual to reach their full potential.

After several years crafting marketing and communications strategies for Japanese clients, I embarked on an enriching journey to Tokyo, seizing opportunities to explore Osaka and Kyoto while on vacation. My travels are always intertwined with a commitment to service, which led me to volunteer at Second Harvest Japan during my stay. This remarkable organization is dedicated to establishing a Food Safety Net nationwide, delivering essential food supplies to children’s homes, shelters for single mothers, centers for the disabled, and various other welfare organizations and individuals in need. Volunteering at Second Harvest Japan was fulfilling and serendipitously connected me with fellow volunteers who had lived in New Jersey and New York City, where I had spent considerable time for career and educational pursuits. This experience reinforced a profound lesson: any place can feel like home when you engage deeply and meaningfully with the community.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, had its humble beginnings as the vision of nine college students on the campus of Howard University in 1908. Since then, the sorority has flourished into a globally impactful organization of over 300,000 college-trained members, bound by the bonds of sisterhood and empowered by a commitment to servant leadership that is both domestic and international in scope.

As Alpha Kappa Alpha has grown, it has maintained its focus on two key areas: the lifelong personal and professional development of each of its members and galvanizing its membership into an organization of respected power and influence, consistently at the forefront of effective advocacy and social change that results in equality and equity for all citizens of the world.
